Atheism and Christianity, how can anyone blindly believe in a book?
Of Horus and Mithras:As of late I keep hearing the debate all the time how can christians believe in the bible so blindly. Of course its not from other religions its always from those who claim to be atheist. The two most common things they like to point out is the supposed similarities between Christ and Horus or Mithras.Where did these facts come from? They came from new age books that reference older material that doesnt back up these claims at all. In fact if they did a little digging themselves they would find these stories fall apart. But of course because they want to find fault in the bible and christianity they dont dig far at all.As far as Mithras is concerned the roman sect which is much debated was only quoted as being like christianity by early christians. No one knows if it was alike because it was so secret that no one was allowed to participate until you had already went through rituals. The biggest source of it wasnt wrote about till the 9th to 10th century in a book called the Denkard, earlier versions like Avesta which only has about an estimated quarter left of it doesnt even begin to compare to christianity. Isnt that blindly adhering to a book also if you dont bother to read it for yourself and use it as evidence?Onto Horus (or Osiris if you prefer) once again there are to authors who wrote books on the subject and compared it to chrisianity. Gerald Massey or Godfrey Higgins both wrote books and refer to old egyptian writings that dont back up either story. But because its what people want to believe they jump on the boat without digging. Who's blind and needs to study?There are rumors and actual native american religions that resembled everything the middle east had also were they stealing it? Obviously not, there isnt any proof to even connect the two societies.So when all is said and done it seems that the atheist who support these arguements are just as blind (if not more so) than the very christians they think they are teaching some great wisdom by spouting out ideas that were written by people who didnt do any research either or just outright lied to make a fast buck by publishing trash and calling it facts.I have said time and again if you find comfort in any religion and it makes you a better person than stick to it. The same can be said if you believe in nothing at all. But why use lies and false facts to back up your arguements? If you are secure in your faith than talk about it dont bash others. If you dont have any religion and you are sure you are in the right than why do you feel the need to try and pick apart others beliefs?Again if there is any new evidence I am overlooking I will gladly look at it but I dont want to hear about books that have been writen recently if its not backed up to the date of the religion than its worthless and is no different than if I published all my ideas on any religion I know nothing about. Just the facts.Now on the other side of it politics and rulers always changed religions but I have atleast 3 documents I can point to that date to the first century and earlier, the gospels, the dead sea scrolls and nag hammadi. While the last one is a direct conflict to orthodox and supports a gnostic christ it does however show that there was Jesus and his disciples.While these are not proof of god either they have backup and have been dated. Which is alot more than any book published recently or Denkard.
